A Kirkby woman is vying to be crowned Miss England.
Alex Ross, who was named Miss Forest and Fens earlier this year, will be lining up against more than 50 other girls this Friday at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
They will all undergo a series of rounds before the winner is announced, including a creative skills round in which they have each had to make a costume out of recycled materials.
There is a talent round, a sports round tomorrow and a charity round, which Alex is confident about entering having raised more than £1,500 Beauty with a Purpose, which is the Miss World Charity.
The 24-year-old said: “I feel nervous but also excited at the same time and I can’t wait to get there and meet all of the other girls.
“It is fantastic to be involved in something where the girls are driven and like-minded.
“Often pageant girls are put under a stereotype, but the stereotypical view couldn’t be further from the truth, no body parades around the stage in a bikini, a lot of hard work and determination goes into this competition.
“It isn’t that the girls want the status, it is what the girls want to do with that status - to help others and hopefully inspire girls from all different walks of life to be themselves and be courageous in all choices that they make.
“I always say that the ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones that do!”
