Kirkby: Spate of bike thefts and shed break-ins prompt police warning

Residents in Kirkby-in-Ashfield are being urged to protect the belongings in their sheds after a number of break-ins over the past few days.

Six garden sheds have been targeted in streets in the north of the town on Wednesday and Thursday night (22nd and 23rd January).

Bikes and tools were taken in burglaries in Raymond Close, Orchid Close and Grangewood Road, whereas sheds were damaged but nothing was taken in Heather Close, Summerfield Road and Burnside Close.

Officers believe the offenders could be getting to and from the scenes of their crimes on pedal bikes after two suspicious incidents were also reported in the area.

A description given is of a slim, white man in his late teens/early 20s, who is around 6ft 2ins tall with stubble.

Make sure your shed is secured by a quality padlock and preferably add grills to any windows. Use shed alarms were possible and chain large items like bikes and lawnmowers together so they are more difficult to move.
