HUNDREDS of folk descended on Kirkby’s new-look Morven Park for a special event to celebrate its relaunch.
The park has been given a makeover thanks to the hard work of volunteers with help from Ashfield District Council and land reclamation firm, Rexco UK Ltd.
Joining the locals for the launch were Kirkby councillors Warren Nuttall, Linford Gibbons and council leader John Knight - while the park was blessed by Graham Bell from Ashwood Church.
Said Coun Nuthall: “The launch has been fantastic and it’s made the hard work of the residents, the landscape team at Ashfield District Council, Ashwood Church and the contractors all worth it.
“It’s wonderful to see the park being used and as a council we are aware of the importance of outdoor activities and quality green spaces.”
The revamp was funded through Section 106 money - a pot of cash for community improvements from a developer - and grant funding from Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN).
A public meeting takes place at The Centre, next to Morven Park Primary School, tonight at 6.30pm where it is hoped a friends group will be set up to work with the council to deliver further improvements to the park.
