Kirkby mum drove with daughter to Morrisons for booze while three times over the limit

A drug rehabilitation worker drove to a Kirkby supermarket to buy more booze when she was more than three times over the legal limit and her eight-year-old daughter was in the car, a court has heard.

Lisa Purvis, 31, of Priory Grove, Kirkby, admitted driving with excess alcohol in the car park of the Morrisons superstore on Lowmoor Road on June 14.

A breath test revealed she had 114 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, said police were called by staff after Purvis argued with them when they refused to sell her more alcohol.

Donna Pursglove, mitigating, said Purvis had experienced a very difficult childhood and had stopped using heroin after detoxifying herself when she was younger.

She said Purvis had recently sought treatment for depression.

“When this offence was committed things had gotten very much on top of her,” Ms Pursglove said.

“She decided to go to Morrisons to buy more alcohol and unfortunately her child was with her.”

A report from the probation service said: “She recognises that she made some poor decisions that day.

“She recognises that it is likely to have affected her driving.

“Alcohol is an issue. She has been using alcohol to cope.

“She is very remorseful for her actions.”

Magistrates said that the fact her daughter was in the car at the time was ‘a frightening aspect’ of the case.

Purvis was given a 12-month community order with a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

She was banned for 26 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £85.
