A Kirkby man stole £600 worth of diesel while on a bicycle.
Michael Martin Smedley (39) of Beacon Drive, took the fuel from Fabrikat vehicles.
Smedley appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to two counts of theft.
Prosecuting Ruth Snodin said he had entered the company’s grounds based on Hamilton Road in Sutton and took empty containers.
“He stole 25 litre containers and siphoned fuel from trucks at the address,” she said.
She described how he then cycled away with the containers balancing off each handlebar.
He did this three times on separate occasions.
Ms Snodin added he then sold on the fuel.
In mitigation Nicola Thorpe Phillips said: “The reason he did this was because he was desperate for money.
“He had no money or food and electricity for his flat. That is what he used the money from the sale of the fuel for.”
Magistrates sentenced Smedley to nine months’ supervision.
He was also ordered to pay £600 compensation to Fabrikat for the loss of the fuel.
