Firefighters battled a blaze in Kirkby yesterday in which two fields of hay bales and a combine harvester caught fire.

Fire crews arrived at the scene on Lowmoor Road at around 5pm yesterday afternoon (Monday, July 25).

A combine harverster was on fire along with two fields of bailed crops.

One hose reel and two jets were used to extinguish the blaze which was out by 6pm.

A man suffering from smoke inhalation was left in the care of the ambulance service, but was not thought to be seriously hurt.
