Kirkby drug addict jailed

Michael Newton of David Street, pleaded guilty to five offences at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Friday 20th February.

On 11th February, Newton stole fuel from a woman’s car after cutting two pipes and then sold it on for £5 to fund his drug habit. Two days later, Newton made a false representation at Boots to try obtain a ‘large amount’ of diazepam and triazepam but when staff became suspicious he left. He then failed to surrender to bail at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court at the appointed time.

On 19th March, he was caught carrying a quantity of diesel in a council wheelie bin which had been stolen by someone else from a compound. In mitigation, Mark Stocks, said: “In terms of the second theft of fuel, he did not actually steal the fuel from the compound. For the false representation, he did not fill out the form, he was merely the fall guy for the others.”

“He did come to court on the 13th but he left before his case was heard.”

Newton was also ordered to pay £40 compensation and £40 victim surcharge.
