Kirkby Dance Academy takes to the floor at Idlewells

SUTTON’S Idlewells shopping centre’s Community Sports Initiative welcomes the Kirkby Dance Academy to the centre to demonstrate the joys of dance this Saturday 3rd September, 11am-3pm.

The Academy’s dance students will be performing their summer pieces in centre throughout the day, which they have been busily mastering throughout the Summer holidays. And they hope their routines will inspire new members to join their dance group.

The Kirkby Dance Academy is a community dance group for 10-17 year olds, based at Kirkby College. The group meets every Thursday evening 6-8pm and specialises in fusing a variety of styles and theatre into all of their performances. The Academy aims to provide high-quality and fun dance sessions and create original fusion performance pieces!

Karla Henry, Freelance Dance Artist at Kirkby Dance Academy commented “We are really looking forward to showcasing our dance routines to the public and I really hope we can recruit some new young dancers into our midst too. Our style of dance is really energetic and so much fun, I’m sure there are some great dancers out there waiting to join us!”

Andrew Wraight, shopping centre manager, commented: “Our Community Sports Campaign has continually grown since its launch in 2009. I’m really looking forward to welcoming another group to the centre and seeing the dance routines the children have been hard at work perfecting.”

The Community Sports Campaign was launched in August 2009 to raise awareness of the importance of getting active and living a healthy lifestyle, whilst making the community aware of the variety of local sporting activities that are available.
