Kirkby beauty queen to host pageant for '˜real girls'

A Kirkby beauty queen has set up her own local pageant to inspire 'real girls.'

Alex Ross, 26, describes herself as: “Not your usual pageant girl.”

She explained: “I got into beauty pageants through sport, I was unconfident and didn’t like my body. I felt sad and depressed and then I got into fitness and I loved it.

“I saw an ad for a pageant saying the judges were looking for someone different and sporty so I just thought I’d give it a go.

“That’s when I won my first title and since then I have had the pageant bug.

“I’m a personal trainer and the very opposite of what people would expect of a pageant girl. You’ll mostly catch me with my hair scraped back in gym gear with no make up on.”

Miss Sensational Beauty 2016 takes place on November 27, at the Summit Centre in Kirkby. The entry fee is £10 per person and all of the proceeds go to The Christie Charity. There is a junior section for ages six-to-12, teenage section 13-to-16 and adult section 17-plus. Alex, who currently holds the Miss Nottinghamshire Galaxy title, said: “I want to change the whole pageant system, I think it’s important that people see ‘real girls’ like me.”
