Kirkby apprentice scoops national award

A KIRKBY apprentice is among national winners at this year’s Remit Apprenticeship Awards.

Laura Percy (31), of Kirkby, received her award at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nottingham. She claimed one of the nine top spots for Apprentices of the Year

Remit works with almost 7,000 apprentices across the country, and its awards are to celebrate individuals who have excelled.

Laura started her apprenticeship two years ago following a career break to bring up her daughter. She works in the customer complaints department for Pendragon PLC at Sherwood Business Park in Annesley..

Laura said: “Following my divorce a couple of years ago, I had to get back to full-time work, but I was really lacking in confidence.

“I had previously worked in the motor trade, so had an understanding of the sector, but this work had been with a car dealer. Changing to an office environment was daunting, particularly after being a stay-at-home mum for years.

“From the start I never believed I would be working up to NVQ Level 3, but the support I have had throughout my apprenticeship from Remit and my employer has made me confident enough to go all the way.”
