King’s Mill to star in new TV drama

The ‘DCI Banks’ and ‘Wild at Heart’ actor stars in the new BBC1 drama Truckers, which was filmed around the Nottingham area, with King’s Mill providing a disused ward for producers to shoot hospital scenes.

Paul O’Connor, chief executive of Sherwood Forest Hospitals, said: “We are thrilled that King’s Mill was selected to feature in the series and we can’t wait to see our debut.”

Truckers starts tomorrow at 9pm and also stars Harry Treadaway, Ashley Walters, John Dagleish, Sian Breckin and Jenn Murray.

It has been written by Southwell writer William Ivory, who also penned this year’s Burton and Taylor - a biopic of the troubled celebrity couple - and the two-part adaptation of DH Lawrence’s Women in Love in 2011, starring Rory Kinnear and Rosamund Pike.

Speaking about the role, Stephen Tompkinson said: “Occasionally in my career, I’ve been able to say an immediate yes to a project without seeing a script, simply because of the writer’s name. Truckers is certainly up there with William Ivory’s other celebrated works and it is an honour to be a part of it.”

King’s Mill played host to the cast and crew for a total of four days in June, a spokesman said, with the soon-to-be-demolished Blandy ward used as a location for hospital scenes.

Truckers is a series about modern Britain told through the lives of truck drivers working for a haulage yard in Nottingham.
