A NEW computerised medical test requesting and reporting system will save £7,000 and improve patient care, say hospital bosses.
The ICE system is currently being rolled out both within Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and in GP surgeries in the county.
It enables pathology tests, such as blood tests, to be ordered and results viewed electronically by hospital doctors and healthcare professionals from wards and clinics at all four hospital sites and by GPs. X-rays can also be requested and reported electronically from the Radiology Department.
This results in reductions in test duplications and means results come through more quickly.
The system also reduces stationery costs compared to the old paper-based method and improves security of patient information.
