Kids given cash from Emma's Trust

Emma Stamp’s heartbroken family vowed to support young people after her death and set up the Emma Stamp Charitable Trust to do so.

Since 2012, grants have been awarded to advance young people’s education, provide equipment to help them excel and develop and to support projects which assist them in becoming responsible members of their community.

Trustees have recently approved a further two grants. The first grant of £200, will go to eight-year-old Abigail Taylor, who has been chosen to represent England in the WMKF (World Martial Kombat Federation) World Championships in Malta this November.

Abigail, from Mansfield, has been doing karate for two years and in May her first point sparring competition resulted in her being invited to undertake training and represent Team England.

Abigail attends The Personal Best Kidz Academy on Newgate Lane and says that one day she hopes to be just like her instructor, Zara Phythian.

The money will be used to help pay for the costs of Abigail’s training, flights, accommodation and kit for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

The trust has also donated £414 to Underwood Villa Footall Club’s under sevens team, to purchase training jackets.

Manager Chris Henson is going to present the jackets to his newly-formed team at an upcoming welcome evening for players and parents.

The club is run by volunteers who work towards a mission statement of: “Encouraging the development of football for all within the local community.”

Chris hopes that the jackets will create a confident, united team image for his young players.
