The money will go towards a £550,000 gamma scanner with CT scanning technology for the hospital.

Mr Wallace, who carried out the walk on the NHS’s 70th birthday, said: “I am very pleased with the turn out – there were half a dozen people who walked the whole way with me. By the time we got to the hospital on Mansfield Road there were almost 30 of us. It was very warm, especially the hottest part of day when we were crossing open fields near Rainworth. We were right on time, so we got a good half- hour at the Lurcher pub in Rainworth who gave us free chip cobs.”
