Job losses as IT firm set to close

An international IT specialist is pulling out of its base in Annesley with the loss of around 40 jobs.

Parts of the staff at the Annesley base of Arrow ECS are facing redundancy after its closure was announced this week.

The company said the closures reflect recent acquisitions and would “serve customers and vendors alike with more efficiency.”

In a statement Arrow said: “Arrow’s enterprise computing solutions business has seen quite a significant expansion and development in the UK throughout the past years.

“Based on several successful acquisitions the number of sales offices grew to a total of six.

“In view of this set-up and following the successful integration of all added businesses, Arrow’s UK enterprise computing solutions management are proposing the closure of the offices in Nottingham and Theale in order to streamline its go-to-market approach and to serve customers and vendors alike with more efficiency.”

The firm would not comment any further on specific details.

It is understood that 40 of the 83 staff working there are being made redundant.

We undestand that the others have been given the option of working from home or relocating to Newmarket or Harrogate.

Sources have told the Ashfield Chad that a further 26 staff in Theale are also being let go.

Ashfield District Council Carol Cooper-Smith, Interim Director Economy. said: “It’s always a matter of concern when a company closes and jobs are lost.

“We will if we can, work with the company and its workforce to assist with any issues.”

The closures will leave Arrow with four UK and Ireland sales offices in Harrogate, Newmarket, London and Dublin.

Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero said: “This is disappointing news for Ashfield and particularly for the employees affected and their families.

“If they have any issues surrounding their redundancy or any other problems as a result of it, they should get in touch with me for assistance or advice.”

Arrow ECS in the UK has a turnover of £986M with approximately 600 employees. Teh firm is is a subsiduary part of US-based Arrow Electronics Inc.

Arrow is a Fortune 150 company and operates in over 460 locations in 56 countries, with 18,500 employees.

In 2015 Arrow had worldwide sales of $22.8 billion.
