Jingle bells will deter Christmas purse thieves in Mansfield

Christmas shoppers in Mansfield have been urged to have jingle bells on their purses to deter thieves.

The advice came from John Swanwick of Ashfield and Mansfield neighbourhood Watch, who said: “Purses are an easy target for thieves in busy shopping areas, it is happening in Mansfield and Sutton Shopping Areas so please be careful.”

Purse Bells are on sale at 50p each at the front counter at Mansfield Police Stations.

The following crimes were reported in the Mansfield 4-7 Dec Nov 2014:

2000-1000hrs 3-4 Dec 2014. Fenwick Street, Warsop. Offender removed car aerial from roof of parked vehicle.

1530-100hrs 4-5 Dec 2014. Garnon Street (off Sutton Road) Mansfield. Parked vehicle was entered. A pair of gloves stolen.

1-5 Dec 2014 Cater Road, Radmanthwaite, Mansfield. Houseowner after checking his shed found someone had stolen his pedal cycle, a gent’s mountain bike, grey colour. Offender had left a pedal cycle at the side of house in its place.

1350-1355hrs 5 Dec 2014, Card Factory, Four Seasons, Mansfield. Offender stole purse from shopper’s bag in busy shop.

1700-1915hrs 5 Dec 2014. Titchfield Recreation Park, Nottingham Road, Mansfield. Offender cut bike lock from pedal cycle and stole the cycle. Desc. A Trek 7.3 hybrid cycle silver/grey colour value £600.

1245-1259hrs 5 Dec 2014 Chesterfield Road North, Mansfield. A secured van parked on business car park. Offender broke front quarter light window to gain entry. An unknown amount a money in plastic folder was stolen from vehicle.

1320-1340hrs 5 Dec 2014. M&S Store. Westgate, Mansfield. Purse stolen from stoppers bag.

1230-1305hrs 6 Dec 2014. Outside B&M Store, Stockwell Gate, Mansfield. Offender cut cycle lock from a black coloured mountain bike had white coloured word “Cube” on frame.

The Mansfield & District Neighbourhood Watch Office will be closed for Christmas and New Year from Monday, 22nd December 2014 to Sunday, 4th January 2015
