JAILED: Six years for Mansfield pervert who asked 12-year-old girl for sex

Aiden Cooper, 21, formerly of Andover Road, Mansfield asked a young girl to send him explicit photos of herself on Facebook asked the girl, he also asked the girl who was 12-years-old at the time, to have sex with him.

Cooper pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court, on 5 January 2018, to four counts of inciting a girl aged under 13 to engage in sexual activity, three counts of making indecent images and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images.

Speaking after Cooper’s sentencing yesterday - Tuesday, February 27 - DC Richard Cashmore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Cooper is a manipulative individual who targeted a vulnerable young girl.

“Unfortunately there are predators out there using online platforms to make contact with young people so they can try to manipulate them in this way. It is something we take very seriously and will do everything we can to detect these crimes and prevent them.

“The victim in this case has shown real bravery in coming forward – it is not an easy thing for a young person to do. I would also like to praise her mum who was involved enough in her daughter’s online life so that she could see when something was wrong.”

Nottingham Crown Court heard that the victim received Facebook messages from Cooper, using an account under a different name and claiming to be 13-years-old.

The girl’s mum found messages with sexual content on her daughter’s mobile phone and, fearing the sender was older than 13, she contacted police.

The court was told that Cooper had also been in contact with the girl on Skype, forcing her to watch a sex act.

As well as his jail sentence Cooper was made subject of a sexual harm prevention order and must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
