In a letter, the MP explained how the growth in population in Hucknall combined with redevelopment plans make the coming years ‘a perfect time to expand on to the town’s High Street’.

He also included details of the pedestrianisation and Hucknall’s industrial background.

Mr Spencer said: “Residents in Hucknall right now see disruption and building and roadworks, but the future could be bright if that brings investment in to the town. I want to point out to these big flagship stores that there are real opportunities here once the redevelopment is complete, with the proximity of the M1, the tram and all of the new housing that will bring money in to Hucknall.

“A big flagship store at the Market Place end of town could be that catalyst to create real positive growth and bring shoppers back.”

Hucknall councillor Ben Bradley said: “I’ve been working with Mark for a long time now to try and deal with some of the High Street issues around parking, empty shops, business rates and much more. It’s been a tough time and I can understand why some people are downbeat, but Mark has it right. We need to be positive and try and sell our town to bring in investment.”
