He had been driving a dark-coloured Audi A6 car which collided with a dark-coloured Volkswagen Beetle. Two people in that car - a man and woman in their 20s - were seriously injured.

The incident happened on the Nottingham-bound carriageway of the A52 Brian Clough Way, near to the junction 25 exit for Risley.

It is believed that one vehicle was travelling in the wrong direction.

He leaves behind wife Marie and stepson Cameron.

The inquest was adjourned until June 15 at 10.30am.
