Inquest opened into caravan park deaths of Mansfield mum and her uncle

An inquest at Nottingham was opened and adjourned by Dr Mairin Casey, senior Nottinghamshire coroner today (Friday September 21).

Lisa Butler, 48, of Mansfield, and her uncle Richard Thompson, 66, of Old Mill Lane, Forest Town, died on Tuesday August 28 after an incident at the Tall Trees Caravan Park in Forest Town.

A post-mortem examination has revealed that both Mrs Butler and Mr Thompson died of stab wounds.

Police were called to Mr Thompson’s home on Old Mill Lane just after 10pm on Tuesday. Paramedics treated Mr Thompson and Mrs Butler but both were pronounced dead a short time later.

Mrs Butler’s family described her as a “much-loved wife and mother.”

Detective Inspector Rich Monk, who is leading the investigation, said: “Following the results of the post-mortem examination we now know they died of stab injuries and that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with their deaths.”

The coroner said Richard Thompson was identified to police by a family member.

Mrs Butler was identified by her husband Sam Butler at the Queen’s Medical Centre.

The coroner confirmed both deaths were interconnected arising from the same incident and no third parties were being sought in relation to the deaths.

She said; “I offer my condolences to the families of both these individuals.”

The inquests were adjourned to a later date to be determined.
