Information event in flood-affected area

Flood-hit residents attended an information event at Rainworth Village Hall to learn more about how they can prepare for future floods.

Sherwood MP Mark Spencer co-ordinated Saturday’s meeting, which brought representatives from Newark and Sherwood District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, the Environment Agency and Severn Trent together, so residents could speak to them about the problems they have had.

The authorities were joined by companies that sell products that prevent flood damage so that people could also invest in appropriate equipment if they wanted to.

Mark said the aim of the meeting was to educate and support residents ahead of any future flooding events.

“There are so many people all across the constituency who are suffering,” he said.

“We want people to think about the problem for the future and help them help themselves by being prepared.”

The Environment Agency and county council were giving advice to residents on emergency flood plans for individuals and communities.

Wendy Harnan-Kajzer, the council’s emergency planning manager, said: “We will never be able to prevent all the flooding but there’s lots of things to do to lessen the impact.”
