Independent Age appeal for Mansfield and Ashfield folk to become volunteers

ELDERLY people’s charity Independent Age is appealing for kind-hearted volunteers in the Mansfield and Ashfield area to visit lonely pensioners.

Organising volunteer Jeanette Bird-Bradley said the service gave older, isolated people a vital contact with the outside world.

“It just gets them feeling part of the community and lets them feel their experiences are relevant to others,” she said.

“It is also incredibly rewarding for volunteers and is a very good thing to have on a person’s CV.”

Volunteers meet with organisers beforehand to get background information on the person they will be visiting and are asked to commit to at least one visit a month.

Travel expenses for visits will also be paid.

If you would like to volunteer please phone Jeanette on 07921 863923.

People can also hold a Big Tea fundraising event for Independent Age to coincide with the UN’s International Day for Older People.

During the events participants simply donate as much as they want for a drink.
