Sutton Community Academy has been singled out as a model for good practice by Ofsted after leadershp and welfare were described as outstanding in a recent report.

Today Principal Tim Croft paid tribute to staff and pupils for the accolade following the report described as the best Ofsted report ever received by a secondary school in Sutton.

Mr Croft was singled out for praise, with the report saying he “focused unremittingly” on making improvements to the quality of teaching and to the attitudes and performances of pupils. This, in turn, created “a culture of higher expectations” at the High Pavement school

The Ofsted report states that “pupils, parents and staff are almost unanimous in their praise” for the academy, which is run by the education provider, Academy Transformation Trust

Mr Croft told your Chad: We were recently contacted to say that Sutton Community Academy has been included as a case study for the Ofsted Annual Report as a model of good practice - a school which has improved from Requires Improvement to Good with Outstanding Features.

“We are really chuffed particularly for the recognition in the report regarding behaviour and personal development of students - we take that very seriously.

“With that in place it made lots of the other pieces of the jigsaw fit together.

“The second area was leadership and management which recognises the strength in leadership across the whole school.

“This is Sutton Community Academy and it is only with the support of the staff, community, parents and the Trust that we have been able to achieve this

Teaching and learning went from requires improvement good and outcomes went from requires improvement to good

“This year’s exam results were the best ever with English and Maths up 10 per cent despite this being the most difficult year.

“The biggest jump was leadership.

“You only get an outstanding from Ofsted if you can demonstrate it is spread across the teams.

“We have outstanding management team and staff teams of middle leaders who are particularly strong in English and Science.”
