In the light of the comments made on last night’s I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here, Rebecca told camp mates about her insecurities of what the ‘ideal’ woman should look like.

Readers have been posting messages of support for the two times gold winner all morning after she broke down in tears on Thursday night.

The heated debate came after the group were discussing the public’s perception of body image.

Rebecca became tearful saying: “It’s also making me very, very insecure that I have to look a certain way.

“For me, I was an athlete, I wasn’t trying to be a model, but pretty much every single week on Twitter I get somebody commenting on the way I look.”

Chad readers rallied behind Rebecca on Facebook. Jo Lund said: “The world knows Rebecca and her achievements...WHO is Amy?!! Beauty queens will just get old, Olympic medallists are written down in history.....”

Louise Benson added: “Personally I don’t think it’s the jungle or that discussion that’s caused this, It’s OUR SOCIETY that has reduced Rebecca to tears people can only take so much & I hope your [SIC] all happy with yourselves!!!! When you’ve made your ‘funny jokes’ this is all down to you it’s not funny it’s bullying & now OUR Gold medallist has broken down on tv, disgusting behaviour!!!! Goooooo Rebecca!!!! Show them how it’s done xxxx”

Ashfield’s MP Gloria De Piero has also shown her support for the retired swimmer.

She Tweeted ‘#ff @BeckAdlington who reminded us in last nights I’m a Celeb - that whatever our talents - we always feel that we are judged on our looks.’

The Ashfield MP is no stranger to the limelight after recently finding herself in the middle of a media storm for posing topless when she was 15.
