KIRKBY figure skater Mark Hanretty has been back in training this week after he retained his place on ITV1 programme Dancing on Ice last weekend.

Mark, who featured in last week’s Chad, is one of the professional skaters on the hit show and on Sunday, he skated with partner Rosemary Conley, a fitness expert.

The pair performed to Abba’s Fernando - and despite a slight stumble from Rosemary at the beginning of the routine, they impressed judges Louie Spence, Robin Cousins and Katarina Witt enough to stay in the game with a score of 12.5.

Speaking after the show, 26-year-old Mark said he was ‘delighted’ to have got through to the next round.

He said: “Rosemary had a bit of a mistake which, in many ways, helped the rest of the performance.”

And he added: “Backstage everyone knows she is embracing it the most.

“The audience in the studio was brilliant - there was such a warm, friendly atmosphere and there were a whole lot of Rosemary’s fans there. The feedback from the judges was really kind.”

Mark also performed a routine with his fellow professional skaters as pop star Pixie Lott performed her single Kiss The Stars.

“There was a lot of pressure,” he said.

“I was relieved after that - so when I went out with Rosemary, I was already relaxed.”

He has also thanked everyone from the Ashfield area who voted for him and Rosemary.

Now the pressure is on for Sunday as the pair have just a week to prepare their routine.

On last Sunday’s episode, Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden and Nina Ulanova came top of the leader board with a score of 20.5, beating last week’s winner Jorgie Porter (Theresa in Hollyoaks) who, alongside partner Matt Evers, received 18.5.

Laila Morse (Big Mo in East-enders) and dancing partner Łukasz Rózycki were voted off.

Next week, the 13 remaining couples will be getting glammed for a movie-themed episode.
