Huthwaite residents' shock after Co-op cash machine is 'blown up'

Huthwaite residents are 'alarmed and shocked' after the village Co-op is targeted by thieves who reportedly 'blew up' a cash machine.

Bosses at the shop on Market Street said the shop is believed to have been targeted at 2,45am on Friday, August 31, when the alarm went off.

Janet Jago- Lee, 54, from the village said: "It's really sad - they girls and boys in that shop are so friendly it must have been a shock to them.

"We try and look after each other here so this is terrifying news.

"I wan't to know where they are getting the stuff from that they are using to blow up the machines."

Patiucus Zhukhafcybryanski , 82, from Huhtwaite said: "When they catch them the police don't do anything with them.

"The thieves need their hands chopping off.

"What is this country coming to - it's wrong."

Ash Parmar, 40, who works at the Post Office next door and lives on the property was one of the residents who called the police he said: "I heard a load explosion then a chainsaw sound and it was then that I knew it was a raid.

"We were warned a few weeks back about cash machines being targeted - but with our machine when it is hit it has a safety procedure that ruins the cash."

Paul Aldrich, 53, who lives on Main Street said: " I didn't hear anything - I can't believe it.

"It means I can't get the paper this morning."

Detectives are investigating after thieves broke in to a cash machine outside the Co-op in Huthwaite and got away with cash.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to Main Street at around 2.25am today. A man was seen leaving in a white Audi.

"If you saw anything suspicious in the area or have any information that could help, please call us on 101 quoting incident 64 of 31 August. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Detectives are particularly appealing to anyone with dash cam footage who was driving in the area around the time it happened, to get in touch.
