Residents told her that they were fed up with the state of the road surface on Sutton Road and Huthwaite Road in particular, while the problem of uneven pavements was also raised, with those behind the back of Springwood View being mentioned.

A new round of Gloria’s residents’ survey was also rolled out on Saturday.

Just over 30 per cent of those who replied said untidy grass verges were also a big problem.

Some of the other concerns included a lack of job opportunities for youngsters in the area, utility bills, King’s Mill, policing numbers and Syria.

Gloria is now planning on following these issues up with the appropriate agencies and will report back to survey’s respondents when she has heard from them.

She said: “The condition of the roads and pavements was right at the top of the agenda and residents are desperate to see action taken.

“Some people in their 80s, who have lived in the area all of their lives, told me that they have never seen it so bad.”
