A HUTHWAITE mum is pleading with people to donate their old mobile phones to help her autistic son who struggles with social skills.

The scheme set up by children’s Hearts and Minds charity promises to exchange Ipads fully packed with ‘apps’ to help autistic youngsters once 165 old mobile phones are collected.

Despite attending a special needs school in Mansfield her seven-year-old son Ben feels very isolated and spends most of his time at home.

“He struggles with social skills so something like this would give him a lot of entertainment – he loves learning games so it would be a great help,” said mum Jennifer Mellor.

To complete the challenge the mobiles must be no older than 10 years old and roughly 80 phones have already been donated.

She added: “Some of you have already kindly donated but if anyone else has one to offer that would be amazing. If you work somewhere which works with old phones that would be even better.”

If you have any phones to help Ben you can get in touch with Jen on 07539376957.
