Huthwaite man in court over baby-shaking manslaughter charge

A young man accused of shaking a baby to death has appeared in court today, 29th October.

Scott Gladwin (20), from Huthwaite, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for the start of his trial where he denies the manslaughter of the four-and-a-half month-old baby boy in February 2010.

The court was told how the mother had left Gladwin in the house with the baby - who can not be named for legal reasons- for a few minutes.

The baby was rushed to King’s Mill Hospital before being taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. He died three days later.

The court was told how he died with injuries consistent with being gripped and shaken. Gladwin said he had left the room and returned to find the baby in that condition.

The trial continues.
