Huthwaite Library reveals its most popular rented out books of 1913

Huthwaite Library has celebrated its centenary with a look back at some of 1913’s most popular books.

A big community celebration marked the library’s 100 years of service on 16th October.

The library revealed that some of the most popular books loaned out at the time included Peter Rabbit, The Wizard of Oz, and The Secret Garden for children.

For adults, books included the Scarlett Pimpernel, the Works of William Wordsworth and a book detailing the background to the Titanic Disaster.

The library was officially opened by Alderman Robert Mellors on 12th April 1913, pictured is Pauline Allan, vice chair of Notts County Council with Mrs Stone, the library’s longest serving customer who has used it for more than 60 years.
