Huthwaite group appeal for support

Members of a Huthwaite community group have said they could face closure if they cannot recruit more volunteers.

The chair of the Alfreton Road Area Tenants and Residents Association has said she is worried that the group will cease to exist if more people do not take an interest.

Kirsty Evans, who has chaired the association for five years, said there are currently only 10 members and numbers are dwindling.

“We have accomplished a lot over the years but now there has been a loss of interest as crime has reduced.

People are not interested in supporting the group and coming to the meetings. If we lose members it means we can’t continue and it is a really tricky situation,” She said.

The Residents Association has been running since 1994. It started out as a neighbourhood watch but has slowly expanded into a tenants and residents association.

Ms Evans added: “If we lose the group there is no community voice for the area.

“It is a large area and without this group the Alfreton Road area and Sutton West will get forgotten about in the community.”

The group appeals for members of the community to attend its next meeting in February or it will be forced to dissolve.

The meeting is on 11th February 2014 at Mapplewell Primary School on Hemming Lane at 7.15pm.

The Association is currently re-electing its vice chair, chair, secretary and treasurer.
