Huthwaite calls to end reign of 'feral gangs' ahead of PCC meeting

The elected head of Nottinghamshire Police is to attend a meeting at the All Saints Centre, Huthwaite on Monday, June 20 to discuss the force's effort to.

And Ashfield District Councillor Lee Anderson has pleaded for them to 'give back our village' after numerous reports of Anti-social behaviour and hate crimes.

Coun Anderson, 49, an ex-miner who's lived in Huthwaite all his life, said

"We've had a hate crime, we've had a racially motivated attack in the Rani Indian restaurant related to gangs. It's been ongoing and it's got to stop, and the Police have got to do more.

"I understand there are police cuts and budget constraints, but I want to make sure people in Huthwaite feel safe when they leave the house and go about their business without being intimidated by gangs of feral youths.

"These youths are still roaming around and people have been that fed up that they're just shutting the door, closing the curtains and getting on with it."

"They're not the mafia, they're not masterminds - we know who they are and where they live, and I think the police can do more. We're not asking for a lot we just want our village back."

Inspector Glenn Longden said: “I have listened to the residents and representatives from Huthwaite and made the area a priority for the Neighbourhood Policing Team.

"We have worked hard, particularly with our council colleagues, targeting those we believe to be responsible, bringing prosecutions where possible and issuing many Community Protection Notices and Warnings.

"Reports of ASB have actually fallen in the Huthwaite area, compared with this time last year, but we know there is more work to be done.”

PCC Paddy Tipping said: “I have walked around Huthwaite to see the problems for myself and I do understand that people are concerned. This is why I’m working with the police, local councillors and the council itself to try and resolve the problem for local residents.”
