Hundreds join job hunt at Kirkby event

A whopping 300 people have attended the jobs fair at Kirkby’s Festival Hall today in just the first hour that the doors were open.

Organised by Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero, around 500 jobs are on offer from the local employers who have stands at the fair.

Some of the biggest names in the area are in attendance and looking to recruit, including Thorntons, Van Elle, E.On, Trent Barton and Ikea.

There are jobs in care, jobs with the NHS and also stalls offering advice on training and how to put CVs together.

Vacancies that are being filled range from apprenticeships to graduate roles to full and part time jobs that will suit people of different ages and with different job experience.

Mick Stenson, the manager at Sutton JobCentre, said: “We are really pleased with this year’s event.

“It’s great to have so many good jobs from local employers and the attendance is excellent.”

Gloria, who opened the fair before having to attend Parliament to vote, said she was pleased to see people queuing at the door, waiting to enter and was impressed with the number and quality of the vacancies looking to be filled.
