Hucknall Rotary forced to cut Christmas Carnival parade due to health and safety

After 20 years of organising the town’s festive event, which included a parade of floats and bands travelling up the High Street into the Market Place, the Rotary Club said that managing the road closures is too hard.

Instead they are ‘planning changes to provide a more manageable community focused event’.

“The road closure for the parade is very hard to manage and the role to organise it became a full-time job for all those involved,” said Rotary’s Ian Young. “There is so many requirements that it becomes a big headache.”

Despite losing the parade, the focus will continue on the Market Place with a big community stage to showcase the town’s talents.

The Christmas Tree Festival, held inside St Mary Magdalene’s Church will continue and a traditionally themed outdoor market will take place. Santa and the switch on of the Christmas lights will also continue.

Mr Young added: “The emphasis will continue to be on the community.”

The Festival will be on Wednesday 2nd December.
