HUCKNALL: Public come forward after brutal assault reward appeal

Offering a £5,000 reward has prompted some calls to police following a brutal attack which saw a Hucknall man badly beaten in his own home.

But police say they still need more help, and are urging anyone who can help to call 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.

The man (64) was brutally beaten and suffered a suspected broken nose, cheekbone and fractured hand after three men forced their way into the house on Auckland Road at round 8.30pm on 1st April.

His terrifying ordeal began when his 63-year-old wife answered a knock at the door and was then thrown across the kitchen by the thugs - who banged her head on the oven, smashing the glass door.

He leapt to her defence and threw a ‘few punches himself’ before being set upon in an attack which lasted minutes.

Bravely speaking through police, the man - who does not want to be named - said he feared for other people’s safety.

People like this go for those who they see as vulnerable. What concerns me most is that if they hit someone in their 80s like they hit me they could quite easily kill them.

“What if it was your elderly parents or your grandparents? If you know who did this then please call the police, so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else.

“We are getting CCTV and a fence around the house after what happened.”

The attack has shocked detectives investigating the case and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them immediately.

“This is one of the worst attacks in my 24 years of policing,” said Insp Nick Butler, of Hucknall Police.

“I have met with the couple several times since their ordeal and they are extremely traumatised by the incident and the wife is unable to sleep.
