Hucknall police chief Insp Nick Butler praises efforts of his officers

HUCKNALL’S proud police chief has publicly thanked his officers for their efforts in keeping the town and its residents safe throughout 2011.

Insp Nick Butler posted a message of praise through the innovative online Neighbourhood Alert system, which notifies signed-up followers of local crimes and policing news via e-mails or texts.

In the message, he said: “It has been another great year in Hucknall and Ashfield for reducing crime. Burglary, vehicle crime and robbery have reduced by a further 27%, and we are also detecting more than a third of all crime, which is among the best rates in the country.

“I have never been as proud as I am now of the level of service we are providing, particularly the personal commitment of our officers and support staff.”

Insp Butler went on to applaud the work of volunteer Special Constables and the new Street Pastors — a group of Christians who now patrol Hucknall town-centre on Friday nights to chat with those who might be drunk, stressed, upset or in need of support and advice.

“Many young people talk to the pastors and seek advice about a multitude of subjects, including alcohol, drugs and crime,” said Insp Butler.

“Pastors have also helped people with alcohol and drug issues to access support services. I would personally like to place on record my appreciation for the brilliant work they do.”

In a message to the public, Insp Butler added:

“Thankyou for all the letters of appreciation that we have received.

“It is good to know that our officers have your support and that we are all one team fighting crime together.”
