Hucknall church community clean-up

A team of volunteers representing two Hucknall churches have played their parts in helping a community clean-up project aimed at making areas in the town more appealing.

Revd David Ford of St John’s Church, Nottingham Road, and his clergy counterpart Revd Stephen Ibbotson, the minister at Watnall Road Baptist Church, are spearheading the “Hope” initiative which is a revival of a project that began a few years ago.

The churches’ workforce focused their inaugural clean-up efforts on a neglected area near to Jenny Burton Way on Nottingham Road and in just a few hours transformed the area by planting shrubs, bulbs and plants on the site which was cleared of rubbish beforehand.

Supported by Andy Fell, environment officer for Hucknall and David Howell, who is based at Woodthorpe Grange Nursery, the Hope team praised Ashfield District Council for providing funding so that the initiative could be put into practice.

“This is a really worthwhile project which is ongoing. We hope to encourage more groups and organisations to come on board and to help us make Hucknall a town to be proud of,” said Revd Ford.
