Hucknall Christmas Tree Festival growing in popularity

From little acorns grow big oaks- the same can be said for the growing success of Hucknall’s Christmas Tree Festival.

The event was launched on the night of the Carnival and has been visited by countless people since Wednesday.

With over 70 entries from various businesses and organisations from across the district, it is attracting more entries each year.

The event was started by Janet Archer, director of the town’s Specsavers store, who brought the idea to the town’s attention four years ago.

“We had thousands of visitors from Hucknall and beyond including one visitor from the United States and was without doubt our best festival to date,” said Janet.

“This is the fourth year we have run the event and once again we were amazed by the beautiful trees and the effort put in to the themes and decorations.

“The festival benefits the community in many different ways, bringing people together and getting us all into the festive spirit. I’d like to thank everyone who took part and all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes and during the festival to make it possible.”

The winner of the children’s category was Indigo Kids with their Indigo Snowman. The adult category winners for the second year running was Hey Days Day Centre with their tree Woolley Wonderland which was decorated with hand-knitted ornaments made by residents.

Janet added: “There were some amazing trees including a living tree provided by Friends of Moor Pond Wood and a tyre tree entered by West Street Garage.”

There were 71 trees this year and over 20 of them were new to the festival. See the Hucknall Christmas Tree Festival Facebook page for more photos.

The event raised £525 by the participants of the festival and was presented to Ian Young, president of Hucknall Rotary, for the benefit of local charities and good causes.
