Hospital boss vows to make improvements

The chairman of the trust which runs Sutton’s King’s Mill Hospital has pledged to make services better for patients by following recommendations in a new report.

Sean Lyons says Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has already started to make changes outlined in the Keogh Report - an action plan which was published in July.

He said: “We are absolutely committed to providing the best quality services for the many thousands of patients who use our hospitals every day, and that is why we have responded to all of the recommendations in the Keogh Review report.

“We already had some actions in progress at the time of the review visit and since that time we have made many more improvements on immediate issues.”

Bosses say key actions that have already been taken include the appointment of a director of nursing and quality as the executive clinical lead for complaints.

Clearing the complaints backlog and beginning to redesign the process is now being consulted on for implementation during the autumn.

The trust says ‘intentional rounding’ is being implemented to make sure regular patient checks at planned times are also being carried out.

The hospital will be inspected by Prof Sir Mike Richards, chief inspector of hospitals, to examine the proposed changes and quality of patient care and services.
