A horse had to be put down after being hit by a car this morning.

The animal was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa on Suttlewood Road, Bolsover, at about 5.50am.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: “The horse was very badly injured.

“We called a vet out and they decided it needed to be put down.”

The horse was not being ridden and the car driver was not injured.

The road was closed for about an hour while the horse was recovered.
