Hopes to increase Mansfield home could create jobs

PLANS to increase the size of a care home in Mansfield by a third could create 14 new jobs.

An application has been submitted by the owners of Newgate Lodge on Newgate Lane to expand their premises to incorporate 34 new bedrooms.

The home currently has 65 bedrooms with the building set back against the road. The plans are to build the new two-storey block on the grassed area in front of the existing building.

It is predicted that nine new day staff members will be needed, and five night staff.

No objections were raised by Mansfield District Council during a pre-application consultation, although there had been some concerns raised over parking. Only three additional parking spaces will be created, enough to accommodate 27 vehicles.

Local planning policy requires a minimum of 29 spaces, however, the owners say that over 50 per cent of the current staff catch the bus to work.

A consultation period ends on 5th September, before the application goes before Mansfield District Council for a decision.
