PETS at Home in Mansfield is hosting a series of free educational workshops this weekend for children to find out how to take care of rabbits responsibly.
Pets at Home is encouraging owners to discover more about what nutrition they need to keep their rabbit’s digestive system working properly and to maintain a healthy weight.
The workshops at Mansfield will run at 12pm on both Saturday and Sunday and give children the chance to interact with the rabbits, and learn how to handle them in a supervised environment.
Store manager Andrew Thompson said: “Many rabbit owners are surprised to find out that eating too many carrots and fruit are bad for their pet.
“They are high in sugar and don’t help wear down the teeth so should only be fed as an occasional treat. Also, a lot of people don’t realise that eating iceberg lettuce can actually be life threatening to rabbits.
“Rabbits need to eat at least their own body size in good, quality hay every single day, alongside small pieces of fresh leafy vegetables and rabbit nuggets.
“This will help them grow into healthy, happy pets and aid in preventing painful dental disease or digestive problems.”
