Homes for people with mental health problems in Ashfield to close

The centres, in Ashfield and Worksop, provided accommodation for people with additional needs, where people could be referred from local mental health teams and hospitals.

However, Nottinghamshire County Council, which approved the plans today, has said that alternative beds will be found in the county, and that there will be no overall change in the level of service provided.

Currently, psychiatric help is provided to the residents of 42 people across four sites in the county.

However, two of the centres are in a poor state of repair, and are to be closed by the council.

Accommodation for nine at the Forest Road flats, in Ashfield, and 16 flats in Watson Road, Worksop will be closed.

The amount of supported accommodation available in the county has decreased sharply since 2012.

There were 150 units available then, compared to 42 available now.

The council spends around £283,000 a year on the service, which consists of weekday support as well as on-call cover for people in distress over the weekend.

Paul Johnson is the council’s service director for strategic commissioning, and said: “The quality and layout of the shared living space doesn’t meet the needs of the tenants and couldn’t be economically rectified.”
