Homeless thief took hair straighteners

A homeless thief who was told to stay out of Mansfield town centre was given a community order.

Damian Hammond (24), of no fixed address, stole hair straighteners from B&M in Mansfield, and bail conditions stipulated he must not enter the town centre.

He was then caught at TK Maxx on St Peter’s Retail Park.

Appearing before magistrates, he admitted taking the straighteners with the intention of selling them to help support himself.

The item he took was never recovered.

As well as a six-month community order, he was told top pay a £15 surcharge and £9.99 compensation for the straighteners.
