Hit and run victim’s appeal

A Hucknall woman who says she is ‘lucky to be alive’, after being the victim of a hit and run incident in the town centre, is appealing for help in finding the driver.

The victim, who only wants to be known as ‘Rebecca’, was enjoying an evening out with her partner when the night ended in a terrifying ordeal.

The 28 year-old was first subjected to an assault near Woollaton Street whilst walking home alone and then hit by a car on High Street in the town centre which saw her ‘flung into the air like a rag doll’.

The driver of the metallic grey saloon car failed to stop at the scene and continued towards Watnall Road leaving his victim at the side of the road.

Now Rebecca is hoping that an appeal to the community for help will bring the driver to justice.

“This man could have killed me,” said Rebecca about the incident which happened just after 1.20am on Sunday 16th March. “I’m lucky to be alive after what happened to me.

“It could have ended much worse and my family may have been dealing with a very different situation.

“This driver had no regard for me or my circumstances and he clearly didn’t care.”

The unprovoked incident happened near the Byron Cinema and the impact was sufficient that Rebecca was ‘tossed over the car bonnet’ before landing the other side of the street outside Hucknall Sports shop. Two girls came to her aid and called the ambulance.

Luckily she suffered just cuts and bruises and swelling to her knee and was later discharged from Queen’s Medical Centre.

“At first I was terrified to go out and couldn’t sleep at night but now I am angry and frustrated that this man hasn’t been caught yet,” she added. “I want him to know that it hasn’t been forgotten and I am asking witnesses or anyone who knows who owns this car or knows the driver to please come forward and tell the police.”

The driver of the saloon is described as being in his late 20s or early 30s, of stocky build with a bald or shaven head.

The car may have sustained damage to the bonnet or doors.

Police would like to speak to a number of people who were in the area at the time of the incident, including several people who helped the victim.
