PC Robert Phillips is carrying out the research to mark 100 years of women working in policing with Nottinghamshire Police and would like to hear from retired female officers, police matrons, or their relatives who may wish to share their memories, both good and bad.

He is also asking anyone with photographs to scan and send them to him.

PC Phillips is particularly interested in anyone with information about Nottinghamshire’s first female Chief Inspector, Jessie Alexander.

She was born and raised in Scotland, joined Nottinghamshire Police in March 1936 and retired in March 1966, being awarded the British Empire Medal in 1963.

She retired back to Scotland shortly after.

The information PC Phillips has is she was born in Woodside, Mauchline near to Ayr in Ayrshire. She is believed to have died in 1986 aged 80.
