Hi-vis vests keep youngsters safe

Youngsters at two Ashfield schools are sure to stand out from the crowd thanks to a donation of high-visibility vests from a local opticians.

Members of the team from Specsavers in Sutton-in-Ashfield visited children at Morven Park Primary School in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and donated 100 vests to youngsters.

The donation will mean the children will be visible to drivers, making the walk to and from school a lot safer for them.

Amy Dobb, foundation stage co-ordinator at Morven Park Primary School commented: “We’re very grateful to Specsavers for their kind donation of 100 high-vis vests.

“Our pupils’ safety is of paramount importance to us, so these vests are very welcome.”

Pupils at St Mary’s Primary School, in Sutton in Ashfield, Primary School also took part in a hands-on creative activity, during which they designed and crafted their own specs out of cardboard.

In a talk focussing on visibility, children at both the schools learnt from the Specsavers team about staying safe on the roads during the darker mornings and evenings.

They also heard about the importance of visiting the optician to keep their eyes in good health.

Nigel Davidson, store director at Specsavers in Sutton-in-Ashfield, said: “We’re delighted to give these vests to children in the local area, as they really make a difference when they are out and about near roads.”

Specsavers supports road safety charity, Brake, to inspire communities to take action on road safety and raise awareness of life-saving messages.
