He's glad he went to Specsavers

A grateful patient has bought flowers for the Specsavers optometerist who drove him to hospital to save his eyesight.

Zeb Herbowski 44 told how went to Specsavers with a sore eye after work and was immediately diagnosed with a serious condition which could have led him to losing it.

He was told he had a form of glaucoma which meant he had to go for immediate treatment- but the nearest available clinic was in Chesterfield.

Big hearted optometrist Claire Lomas 34, who drove him all the way there in her own car.

He said; “Claire told me I had blood pressure in my eye and if it was not relieved it would severely damage the nerve.

“She made some phone calls and told me I had to go to Chesterfield to have it treated by the doctors there.”

But Zeb from Wraclaw in Poland, said he had no idea where it was or how he could get there in his state.

He said: “ She set the ball rolling and then offered me a lift. I was touched and amazed by what she did - she is an angel. “I don’t know how to say thank you.”

Zeb’s condition has been stabilised and he is waiting for laser surgery at King’s Mill hospital.

Claire said; “I took pity on the poor chap - I just had to make sure he got his treatment. I wouldn’t have been able to sleep otherwise.”

She added ; “Glaucoma is a preventable disease if it is treated early but people often have no symptoms until it is at an advanced stage.”
