Helpline is a vital part of Macmillan's support service

In the age of texting, WhatsApp, email and social media, it is perhaps easy to forget the importance of speaking to someone on the phone.

The Macmillan Cancer Support Line began in 2009.

It is the charity’s national helpline and last year alone, more than 156,000 calls were taken.

The team provides financial advice, cancer information, support with welfare benefits advice, work and cancer information – the list goes on.

They provide a great service across the county and are a real source of support for people affected by cancer.

In Nottinghamshire, 957 called the helpline.

Now, imagine that these calls could be from any age group, any background, and not only calls from the patient themselves, but also family members, friends, colleagues, employers, neighbours, healthcare professionals anyone you can imagine.

In May, Macmillan launched its Nottinghamshire campaign to raise £1 million for new cancer support services in the county.

I would love as many people as possible in the area to get behind the campaign to help Macmillan be there for friends, family and colleagues when they need it the most.
