A healthy growth for Sutton Plant Fayre day

A record number of people came along to this year’s annual Ashfield Plant Fayre.

The event, organised by Ashfield District Council, was held on Sunday 18th May at the Sutton outdoor market and was hailed a great success thanks to the high numbers of traders and members of the public who attended.

The glorious sunshine helped to complement the vast array of plants and flowers that were for sale - with very few people leaving empty handed.

Dave Barker, Ashfield District Council senior markets Officer, said: “It was a great community event bringing a buzz and vitality to the town centre.

“We have sold more stalls than any previous year and have also added an element for the younger visitors to make this a family event and not just a plant market.”

For the younger visitors, Sure Start and Sutton Academy were on site with childrens activities, face painting, grow your own sunflower/vegetable kits, grassheads and many other activities.

Children were well catered for, enjoying the face painting, fairground rides, popcorn and donuts.

The successful family event will be followed by a Harvest Festival market in September showing off the produce of Ashfield’s gardening enthusiasts.
